Some walks around Bilsdale

There is a wide variety of walks in Bilsdale.  Various people have already identified some of the more popular walks on their web sites, and some that are not so well used.  In  this section we provide a brief summary together with the appropriate link.

If you come across other walks, please let us know

A good place to start is the list of 23 walks by Frank Firth.  There are numerous routes starting at the Village Hall car park in Chop Gate.  Don Burluraux  also provides some interesting walks in this area.

A circular walk around Raisdale: Chop Gate, Cold Moor, Cringle Moor, Lord Stones café, Brian's pond, Raisdale Mill, Raisdale, Chop Gate

As above, but stay on the moor top after Brian's pond and continue to Cock Howe , then and descend down Trennet Bank to the Village Hall.    map of route

There are a range of challenging walks around Tripsdale

From Lords Stones Cafe walk around Cringle Moor, 4 miles, 2 hours

Fangdale Beck, the Grange, cross B1257 to Hill End, continue to the ford in Tripsdale and climb to Kay Nest then back over the stream to William Beck Farm and Chop Gate.  Go up Trennet Bank to Cock Howe, tern left to Bilsdale mast then return to Fangdale Beck.    map of route     10 miles, 5 hours

From Fangdale Beck you can also climb directly onto the moors to Moor Gate or head south towards Laskill ,

There are excellent views of Bilsdale from the car park at Newgate Bank and this is the starting point for a 10 mile circular walk around Bilsdale
